Meter Pengukur Sahabat Sound Enginers

Your Ad HereOK kali ini ak mo sedikit bagi-bagi pengetahuan aja, coz kemaren banyak yang minta aku bikin artikel tentang meter pengukur yang sering dipakai sound enginers. Langsung aja kita kemon


1. VU meter (Volume Unit) : biasa disebut Loudness Meter . . . perlu kalibrasi dalam memakainya

misal :

* Mixing : pake 0 dbVU = -12 dbFS (peak)
* pre/Mastering : pake 0 dbVU = -6 dbFS (peak)

Disitu artinya adalah Setiap jarum VU menyentuh angka 0 maka direpresentasikan sbg peak yg kita set.

TIPS dari MEW

* -3dbVU -> SOFT
* -2 / -1 dbVU -> Normal
* 0 dbVU -> Loud
* +1 / +3 dbVU -> Distort (Potensi terjadi distorsi)


2. Peak Meter : meteran ini biasanya ada di mixer untuk monitor peak level (jgn salah kaprah antara Peak dgn Loudness), Peak meter g bisa bwt ngukur loudness, Peak meter hanya bisa untuk mengukur rasio sinyal digital dgn headroom digital. sifatnya FAST RESPONSE (indikator responsif/ cepat)

biasanya Sound Enginer (SE) men-Set Master ke -0.3 db Peak ato -0.1 db Peak dlm pre/Mastering


3. SPL meter (Sound Pressure Level) untuk mengukur sinyal audio di udara so meter ini tidak terhubung langsung dgn peralatan kita


4. RMS meter (Root Mean Square) bersifat SLOW RESPONSE (indikator bergerak lambat), smntara ak blm bgitu paham fungsi dari RMS, tapi kebanyakan SE mempunyai standar sendiri dalam mastering typ genre lagu dgn nilai dbRMS yg berbeda

Catatan : Headroom = kapasitas/ruang yg bisa di isi level audio. Jika Headroom habis = bunyinya distort/pecah.

Slate Digital’s FX-G Virtual Mastering Processor, a digital audio process that could increase the level of a mix without altering the punch and dynamic feel, or make the mix sound squashed and lifeless. Imagine mastering your mixes without causing the lifeless, squashed, and over compressed sound that has become so common in modern music. We have all been at the mercy of the “loudness wars” for over ten years now. Masters have become louder and louder, at the expense of the music becoming harsh and lacking punch and dynamics. One of the main causes of this epidemic is the use of the Peak Limiter to achieve increased levels in the mastering stage. Peak limiters attenuate transients and often reduce punch, stereo imaging, can greatly alter mix balances, and cause a fatiguing result to the ears.
Some of the top mastering engineers have found ways to combat this sonic degradation by using techniques other then Peak Limiting. One of the more popular techniques is the use of saturation in both the analog and digital domain. Another popular method is clipping the front end of expensive A/D converters.

However, both of these methods, while better then peak limiting, have their downfalls. Static saturation curves are not universal in their ability to sound good on all transients. Clipping greatly reduces low end punch and is very poor at retaining sub bass. Both static saturation and clipping have a small window of gain maximizing before audible distortion. Enter SLATE DIGITAL.
